The Regional Pastoral Livelihoods Resilience Project has started intensivevaccination of livestock against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), commonlyknown as goat plague. The lethal viral disease can cause livestock mortality of up to 100 per cent. Withsuch mortality rate, small holder farmers suffer losses ranging from treatment costs, milk reduction and actual loss of cattle to the disease. This vaccination exercise serves as one of the many interventions for buildingresilience and realizing sustainable livelihoods in the Karamoja, Teso and Sebeisub regions, a cause that the project is committed to.The most effective vaccination against PPR is a major advance in the control ofthe disease. The control of PPR is important for poverty alleviation and to ensurelivelihood security in the project area.
