Community Animal Health Workers receive bicycles

Community-based animal health workers (CAHWS) have been given 360 bicyclesby the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.The bicycles that were given under the Regional Pastoral Livelihoods ResilienceProject, are meant to ease CAHWS movement as they treat and report diseaseoutbreaks in the Karamoja, Teso and Sebei sub regions.“We are grateful to the ministry for all the efforts that have been put in place toimprove livestock health in the region.

Animal disease surveillance through theCAHWs has greatly improved because of the accurate and timely reporting ofdisease outbreaks in the region,” said Mr. Stephen Oloya, the Chief AdministrativeOfficer Napak District while handing over the bicycles to the Napak CAHWs.CAHWS are some of the most dedicated workers, but are hindered bymovements to access these regions. With the new means of transport, the workershave vowed to comb every village to control animal diseases.
